I visited a friend on the south coast days before lockdown. Cecily had made a striking assemblage of found beach objects that included a paper bird she’d bought in Spain. I was so inspired by her imagination I thought I’d try to paint a picture that depicted something of her lovely piece.
I took photographs then, back home, the lockdown presented the perfect opportunity to have a go. I had the time to enjoy working very slowly, first a paper collage, then the painting which I changed a lot over the weeks.
It will now remind me of Cecily’s lovely 3-D work and the strange time that followed my visit.
